"Whenever application is made to the governor for the parole, pardon, or communtation of sentence of any convict sentenced for a felony, he may at once refer the same, with all the recommendations, and any other papers accompanying it, to the attorney-general, secretary of state, and state auditor, as a pardoning board for such action as is hereinafter required." (Ala. Code, Chapter 2778 [1923]). This series consists of correspondence and other papers regarding applications for parole, which were forwarded to the Board of Pardons for action. Typical records in this series include correspondence regarding petitions for parole, petitions requesting that parole be denied, requests for information on a case before the board, and letters from attorneys respresenting criminials applying for parole. These records were created under the Board of Pardons (1901-1935) during the administration of Governor Charles Henderson (1915-1919).
